Latisse for Your Scalp? It May Not Just Be for Eyelashes Anymore

It has recently been reported that some doctors are using Latisse off-label for the treatment of hair loss.  Latisse, which has a remarkable track record for its effects on growing longer, fuller eyelashes, is now being studied for its effectiveness on the scalp as well.  Contrary to popular belief, hair loss is not just a male problem.  It has been suggested that women make up as much as 40% of hair loss sufferers in America.  Treatment options for hair loss are limited, with the leading treatment being Minoxidil, well known as Rogaine.

Latisse works because of its active ingredient, bimatoprost.  While the exact mechanism is unknown, bimatoprost is thought to affect eyelashes in their growth phase.  It’s not surprising, then, that a treatment used to grow fuller lashes may have a similar effect on the scalp. Who knows? In the future, Latisse may give Minoxidil a run for its money.

Latisse for Growing Lashes

While this potential application of Latisse is interesting, it’s important to remember why countless individuals turn to the proven treatment every year: its ability to grow darker, fuller and longer eyelashes.  When individuals suffer from inadequate or not enough eyelashes, Latisse is often the answer.

Before beginning a Latisse regimen, we will sit down to discuss the potential benefits and risks of treatment.  Latisse is applied every night along the skin at the base of the upper eyelashes, using a sterile applicator.  This is a treatment that works gradually, and the full benefits are typically seen around week 16.  Though Latisse is not a permanent fix, with nightly use you should be able to grow and maintain the longer, fuller eyelashes you’ve always wanted.
