When you smile, laugh, frown, or look puzzled, you contract the muscles of your face. Over time, these contractions produce permanent furrows and deep wrinkles in the skin. You may notice this around the eyes and mouth, between the eyebrows, and on the forehead. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry, or tired. If you have noticed these signs of aging on your face,
Charlotte Ann Rhee, MD, provides BOTOX and Dysport injections, two of the most trusted neuromodulators in the world. These injections prevent you from deepening lines during natural facial movements and erase the marks of aging, leaving you looking younger and more refreshed. With more than 30 years of aesthetic experience, Dr. Rhee uses precise, conservative dosing to create results that look effortlessly smooth, never frozen. Dr. Rhee is a Board-Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon in Huntington, NY, serving Long Island and the surrounding areas of New York.

BOTOX® is the brand name for botulinum toxin A, a therapeutic muscle-relaxing agent derived from the bacteria Clostridium Botulinum. Initially approved by the FDA for the treatment of eye muscle spasms, BOTOX® was quickly recognized for its cosmetic value.
When injected in small doses in specific areas, BOTOX® injections block nerve muscles responsible for the repetitive actions that cause fine lines and wrinkles. In this way, BOTOX® smooths the lines in the skin that make you look tired or angry. We do not currently offer BOTOX® but offer a similar product, Dysport.

Dysport® is another brand name for botulinum toxin. Dysport® is an FDA-approved treatment for temporarily lessening or eliminating moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Like BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dysport injectable is placed directly into the muscle underneath a furrow, weakening the muscle to the point where it cannot contract.

There isn’t much difference between these two neuromodulators. They are both made from botulinum toxin type A and work by blocking muscle contractions that form lines and wrinkles on the upper third of the face.
BOTOX® has the most approvals. It was first approved in 2002 for the treatment of frown lines and forehead lines. The FDA added approval for crow’s feet in 2011, although it had been used “off-label” for that almost since the beginning. BOTOX® also has FDA approvals for a variety of other uses, including treating migraine headaches, stopping urinary incontinence, and excessive sweating.
Dysport has been approved by the FDA (in 2009) for the treatment of forehead wrinkles and frown lines. It was also approved for cervical dystonia (upper limb spasticity) in children in 2019.
BOTOX® and Dysport® are very similar, but they have some subtle differences. Some people believe Dysport lasts one month longer than BOTOX, but this hasn’t been clinically proven. The two products are diluted differently, so it takes more Dysport® to achieve the same results as BOTOX®, but the price is cheaper, so it equals out in the end. Dysport® is made of smaller molecules compared to BOTOX®. This allows Dysport® to start working a day or so faster than BOTOX®. It will also enable Dysport® to be spread to a larger area.
While BOTOX® and Dysport® both rejuvenate the face, dermal fillers like Juvéderm® work in entirely different ways.

BOTOX and Dysport are neuromodulators. They relax specific facial muscles to soften dynamic wrinkles formed by expressions, such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines. The result is smoother skin and a more refreshed look without altering facial structure.

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, address volume loss and contour. Made from hyaluronic acid, fillers restore youthful plumpness to areas such as the cheeks, lips, and jawline, or fill static wrinkles that remain even when the face is at rest. Many patients choose to combine the two for a balanced, comprehensive approach: neuromodulators to relax fine lines, and fillers to restore structure and dimension. Together, they create natural, harmonious rejuvenation without surgery or downtime.

Every beautiful result begins with a thoughtful consultation. During your wrinkle treatment consultation with Dr. Charlotte Ann Rhee, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals, review treatment options such as BOTOX®, Dysport®, and dermal fillers, and receive a personalized plan tailored to your facial anatomy and lifestyle. Dr. Rhee’s approach is calm, compassionate, and precise, ensuring your results look natural, balanced, and uniquely you.
Using a very fine needle, your qualified physician at Dr. Rhee’s office will make the injections into the designated muscles in your face that are causing lines and wrinkles. You may experience brief, mild discomfort during the injection, but you can be assured that the treatment is very safe and effective.
The treatment takes only a few minutes, requires no anesthetic, and has immediate recovery. You will be able to return to work and resume your normal daily activities the same day. Many patients get injections during their lunch break!

Neuromodulators like BOTOX and Dysport are highly effective for smoothing lines and refreshing the upper face. They are commonly used to treat:
Beyond wrinkle reduction, these treatments can also subtly lift the brows, slim the jawline, and balance facial symmetry without surgery or downtime.

Not all wrinkles are created equal. In fact, there are two main types: dynamic wrinkles and static wrinkles.
BOTOX® and Dysport® target dynamic wrinkles, the lines that form from repeated facial expressions like frowning, raising your eyebrows, or squinting. Over time, these repetitive movements, combined with thinning skin and decreased collagen, cause visible lines such as frown lines, forehead creases, and crow’s feet.
By gently relaxing the underlying facial muscles, BOTOX and Dysport block nerve signals that trigger contraction, allowing the skin above to smooth and soften.
This same mechanism led to the first FDA-approved use of BOTOX in 1996 for eyelid spasms. Today, it remains the world’s most popular cosmetic treatment. Within just a few days of your injections with Dr. Rhee, you’ll notice smoother, refreshed skin and a naturally relaxed expression that takes years off your appearance.
Static wrinkles, on the other hand, are caused by sun exposure, smoking, reduced collagen production, and the natural aging process. Unlike dynamic wrinkles, they remain visible even when your face is at rest. These lines, often found around the mouth, cheeks, and lips, respond best to dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane®, which Dr. Rhee also offers to restore volume and smoothness where it’s needed most.
A good candidate for cosmetic injections with Dysport or BOTOX may be anyone looking to enhance their appearance by reducing unwanted lines or wrinkles. It is also important that patients seeking treatment are in good physical health, are not pregnant or nursing, and do not have a neuromuscular disorder.
Men and women considering cosmetic injections should have realistic expectations of what the procedure can do. You should discuss your desired results with Dr. Rhee and her staff during your consultation to ensure that your goals can be achieved.
“Dr Rhee and Olga are exceptional. I felt at ease for all my office visits. The office is very clean and pretty. I am very happy with my results.” – Michelle B.

There is no formal downtime with BOTOX or Dysport. Immediately following your treatment, you may experience mild bruising, redness, or slight swelling at the injection sites, which typically resolves quickly.
Dr. Rhee recommends avoiding strenuous exercise, lying flat, or rubbing the treated areas for 24 hours to ensure optimal results. You can wear makeup and return to your regular routine right away.

You will see your wrinkles begin to fade within 24 hours, with continued improvement over the next 5 days. The effects of BOTOX® and Dysport® typically last up to four months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several treatments, the results may be prolonged.
For optimum results, many patients choose to use cosmetic injections in conjunction with a facelift, skin rejuvenation therapy, and/or laser skin resurfacing.
Even though BOTOX® & Dysport® are not surgical procedures, it is very important to choose a highly experienced and qualified physician when deciding to undergo injectable treatments. Doctors who are less familiar with the technique could leave you looking “frozen” or perpetually surprised. Dr. Charlotte Rhee and her staff are intimately familiar with BOTOX® & Dysport®, having successfully treated hundreds of patients at our office. We also take the time to speak with each candidate before beginning the injections to determine what they want to achieve and to find out how best to address their problem area(s).

You really can’t go wrong with any of these two injectables. Dr. Rhee can discuss the differences with you, as we’ve described above. The main difference is the price point and the slightly greater spreading ability of Dysport®.
Both last about 3–4 months on average. Some patients find Dysport takes effect slightly faster, while others prefer BOTOX for its precision.
You’ll begin noticing smoother skin within a few days, with full results visible in 1–2 weeks.
Not at all. Dr. Rhee uses conservative, strategic dosing to preserve your natural facial movement and expressions.
Most patients schedule maintenance treatments every 3–4 months to sustain their results.
Yes. Many patients combine neuromodulators with Juvéderm® fillers for full-face rejuvenation—smoothing lines and restoring volume simultaneously.
Side effects of cosmetic injections are rare and are usually mild and temporary. The most common side effects caused by BOTOX® and Dysport® are headaches and temporary redness or bruising of the skin at the site of injection. In rare cases, slight drooping of an eyelid or asymmetry of expression may occur. Any risk of complications can be reduced by choosing a qualified and experienced physician.
