The Filler That Works Like Your Skin’s Own Moisture

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a product family that includes a variety of dermal fillers to restore a more youthful appearance to the face. Juvéderm is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved dermal filler manufactured by Allergan, Inc. These fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar in the body. In terms of the skin, HA’s role is to deliver nutrients and hydration and act as a cushioning agent. Young, healthy skin contains a high level of HA, but factors such as aging and sun exposure reduce its levels, leading to a loss of structure and volume.

Injections of any Juvéderm product deposit particles of hyaluronic acid into dermal tissue. Hyaluronic acid attracts water molecules and binds them, retaining them within tissues for months. Gradually, the body metabolizes hyaluronic acid, and as this occurs, water molecules disperse from the treated area.

Each injectable dermal filler formula in the Juvéderm family is uniquely formulated to treat different areas of the face, from smoothing deep folds to plumping lips and restoring cheek definition. The gel integrates seamlessly into the skin for a soft, natural look and feel.

A Filler for Every Feature

Types Of Juvéderm Fillers

Juvéderm offers ample opportunities to refresh the face, as the manufacturer has formulated fillers with varying degrees of cross-linking. Cross-linking determines the consistency and density of each filler. This family of fillers includes Vollure, Volbella, and Voluma.

Understanding Cosmetic Injectables

Juvéderm vs. Botox

Botox and Juvéderm are both common injectables that are used to reduce the signs of facial aging. However, the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm products refreshes the face in a different way than Botox.

When we inject dermal fillers like Juvéderm, we add plumpness and structure by trapping water molecules in tissue. When Botox is injected, lines and wrinkles in the upper face are smoothed by the action of the neuroreceptors in the muscle tissue. Botox reduces muscle contractions, which decreases lines and can also lift a sagging brow.

Both Juvéderm and Botox are highly effective treatments when used for their specific purposes, Juvéderm for restoring volume and contour, and Botox for smoothing dynamic wrinkles. Many patients choose to combine the two for comprehensive facial rejuvenation. Dr Rhee will help you determine the best approach for achieving a balanced, youthful, and natural-looking result.

How Does Juvéderm Work?

The Juvéderm Procedure

Injectable treatments are conducted in our Long Island office in under an hour for most patients, including the initial consultation. After discussing concerns and the desired treatment outcome, Dr. Rhee administers injections of the selected product into the target area. A fine needle is used for the injection, which is given under the skin to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds.

Juvéderm products contain a numbing agent, making treatment easily tolerated. The hyaluronic acid particles immediately bind to water molecules, allowing us to observe treatment results as we administer the product. This will enable us to achieve the desired improvements, allowing each patient to see the changes they requested immediately.
